hey man have you heard of www.cacophony.org ? I was just looking into it because I came across an article about burning man when I remembered reading or hearing somewhere that it was reminiscent of a ritual. well anyway - cacophony reminded me of chaos marxism and current 128 so i thought I'd drop a line here about it
Oh yeah. They're an inspiration. Back in the 90's I first heard about them in a magazine called Hypno and they were fascinating as hell to me. So I sent them a letter, asking for more information and how I might go about starting my own chapter. They replied with an envelope containing a pencil eraser and some dry macaroni.
I think the website has some details about that nowadays... but, anyway, I found something that kinda bothers me. They mention not using implicit politics - which just made me think, "ok, so explicit politics are a go." but then I went to find the facebook group, and the second thing they hit you with when you request to join is "will you refrain from discussing politics". and that seems pretty counterintuitive to me and totally contradictory to the philosophy it's based on - too dogmatic for me
I very honestly think that the Cacophony Society, writ large, is dead and anyone operating under the banner now, especially on social media, are pretenders. Cacophony was very much an American brand of Situationist International and therefore EXTREMELY political.
